Angami belongs to the Naga group of languages of the Tibeto-Burman family. It is spoken mainly in the Kohima district of the state of Nagaland. Broadly, Angami may be said to have three dialects: the Kohima dialect considered the standard, spoken in and around Kohima village and town, the Khonoma dialect, spoken in and around Khonoma village to the west of Kohima and Chakru or Chokri spoken in villages like Chazuba and Purüba. The present dictionary is a trilingual, pedagogical dictionary, the target languages being English and Hindi. It is based on the standard Kohima dialect.
