Wakhi is a member of the Southern Pamir group of Iranian languages. It is spoken in parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and China by about 31,000 people. Speakers of Wakhi call themselves Wakhi or Pamiri. Wakhi is used to some extent on the radio on TV in Pakistan. It has been written with the Arabic and Cyrillic alphabets, and is now usually written with the Latin alphabet.
